How to Configure Public Holidays & Mandatory Days in Odoo 17 | Odoo 17 Time Off App – CBMS Odoo ERP

Odoo 17’s Time Off application offers functionalities to manage employee leave effectively. A crucial aspect of this is configuring public holidays and mandatory work days. This ensures accurate leave tracking, avoids scheduling conflicts, and streamlines the leave request process.

Public Holidays:

Creating Public Holidays: Navigate to the Time Off app, then Configuration followed by Public Holidays. Click the New button to create a new record.
Holiday Details: Fill in the details for the public holiday. This includes the Name, the Company (relevant in multi-company setups), and the Start Date (and End Date if it’s a multi-day holiday).
Working Hours Definition: Crucially, define the Working Hours for the holiday. Options include “Paid Time Off” or “No Work.” This impacts how leave requests are handled during the holiday period. For instance, “Paid Time Off” wouldn’t deduct leave days if an employee requests time off coinciding with the holiday.
Mandatory Days:

Creating Mandatory Days: Similar to public holidays, access the Time Off app, then Configuration, but navigate to Mandatory Days. Click New to add a new mandatory day.
Mandatory Day Details: Enter a clear Name for the mandatory day and select the associated Company (if using a multi-company database). Odoo also offers a hidden field named “Departments” where you can link specific departments if mandatory work applies only to certain teams.
Important Considerations:

Leave Requests and Public Holidays: An important point to remember is that configuring public holidays in Odoo doesn’t automatically deduct from allocated leave requests. An employee requesting time off during a public holiday marked as “Paid Time Off” wouldn’t see their leave balance impacted.
Preventing Leave on Public Holidays: To restrict leave requests on public holidays or specific days, utilize the Mandatory Days feature. Leave requests submitted for mandatory days will be deducted from the employee’s leave balance.
Comprehensive Leave Management: Odoo’s Time Off app goes beyond public holidays and mandatory days. It empowers you to define various leave types, manage employee leave allocation, and streamline the entire leave request and approval process.
