Odoo 17 allows you to manage products with different Units of Measure (UOM) to effectively handle situations where you buy and sell in varying quantities. Here’s how to purchase products with different UOMs:

1. Product Configuration:

Go to the Products app and create a new product or edit an existing one.
In the product form, locate the Unit of Measure field. This is your product’s reference unit, often the unit you stock and sell in.
Below the reference UOM, you’ll find the Purchase UOM field. This is where you define the unit your supplier uses when selling you the product. It can be different from your reference UOM.
2. Purchase Order Creation:

Navigate to the Purchases app and create a new Purchase Order.
Add the product you want to purchase.
In the Ordered Qty field, enter the quantity you want to buy according to your supplier’s UOM (purchase UOM).
3. Automatic Conversion:

When you enter the quantity in the purchase UOM, Odoo automatically converts it to your reference UOM based on the pre-defined conversion factor. This conversion factor specifies how many units of the purchase UOM equate to one unit of your reference UOM. You can set this factor in the product form under the UOM tab.
The Unit Price field will also automatically adjust. Odoo calculates the price per unit in your reference UOM based on the supplier’s price and the conversion factor.
4. Purchase Order Confirmation:

Confirm the purchase order once you’ve added all the necessary purchase lines. This generates a purchase order reflecting the quantity in your reference UOM and the supplier’s UOM.
5. Receiving the Purchase:

When the products arrive, go to the Purchases app and create a Goods Receipt.
Select the confirmed purchase order and click on Receive.
Odoo displays the ordered quantity in both UOMs. You can then enter the received quantity based on the unit you received the product (either your reference UOM or the supplier’s UOM). Odoo automatically converts it to the reference UOM for inventory purposes.
Benefits of Using Different UOMs:

Accurate Inventory Management: Tracks inventory levels precisely in your reference UOM and the supplier’s UOM.
Simplified Purchase Orders: Eliminates manual calculations for converting between UOMs.
Improved Communication: Ensures clear communication with suppliers by specifying quantities in their preferred UOM.
Additional Notes:

You can define multiple purchase UOMs for a single product, allowing you to purchase from different suppliers using different units.
Odoo provides reporting tools that consider UOM conversions for better purchase analysis.
By following these steps and leveraging Odoo’s UOM functionalities, you can streamline your purchasing process for products with different units of measure.
